This section is always changing, as Search Engine Optimization tools are always evolving. SEO tools that were great last year, or even last month might not even work anymore. I will be constantly updating this section to include the latest and greatest tools for SEO.

Firefox SEO Plugins

  • SEOMoz toolbar - Check mozRank, mozTrust, and other Linkscape metrics in your browser. Quick and easy access to all the SEOmoz tools and other PRO resources.

Freeware SEO Tools

Freeware SEO tools are becoming hard to find, as many people are finding out that there is much money to be made in the field of search engine optimization. There are still a handful of great free SEO tools, so we will keep you posted.

Keyword Suggestion Tools

The list of free keyword suggestion tools has been shrinking over the years, with the loss of Yahoo's Overture API, many tools went obsolete. Because of this, I have pulled together a list of the most trusted free keyword suggestion tools left out there below.

Keyword Ranking Tools

Digitalpoint Keyword Ranking and Tracking Tool

The best tool on Digitalpoint, their Ranking tool can track the progress of your keywords on the top 3 search engines. It requires a Google SOAP API key to track on Google and used to require a certain PHP file to track keywords on Yahoo and MSN. I am not sure how this tool has been affected by Bing. I am guessing it doesn't track keywords on Microsoft search anymore. You can find some SOAP API keys floating around on the net if you look hard enough. I hope to be able to provide the script some day that will allow your keywords to be tracked on Yahoo and MSN. For now, you can use the tool below.

Free SEOMoz Tools

SeoMoz has become a definitive source for SEO news and insight. They have also started to provide a wide range of SEO tools for both free and subscription. Below you can see the free SEO tools and subscription based SEO tools available from SEOMoz.

  • Linkscape - Provides link data on 54+ billion URLs across 230+ million domains.
  • Term Target - Similar to the keyword density tool of old.
  • SEOMoz Labs - These are the free tools provided in the SEOMOz labs set of tools. Most of these are Pro member tools which require a subscription.
  • Trifecta - Measures the strength of pages, blogs, and entire domains based on several factors. *Must be logged in to use this tool. 1 free Trifecta report per day.
  • Term Extractor - This tool analyzes the content of a given page and extracts the terms that appear to be targeted at search engines. It uses several on-page SEO factors to determine the result.
  • GeoTarget - Determine how well you rank in a country specific search query.
  • SEOMoz Toolbox - This is a set of free SEO tools provided by SEOMoz. Each tool is provided below. *Note - You must be logged into your free registered SEOMoz account to access most of these tools.
    • Strongest Pages on a Domain - Provides a list of the strongest pages on a given domain.
    • Check Inclusion - Check to see if a domain is included in Google, Yahoo, and Bing.
    • Check Backlinks - Reports the number of backlinks a website has, and also shows a previous history of backlinks from previous reports.
    • PageRank Checker - Check your Google PageRank, and show a history of previous PageRank scores.
    • Find Domain Age - Check the domain age for a given domain, and when it was first discovered by search engines.
    • Check HTTP Status Code - Checks the HTTP status code for a given URL. Checks for HTTP status 301, 302, 404, 200, etc.
    • Check Indexed Pages - Checks the amount of indexed pages for a given URL in the 3 major search engines.
    • Whois Tool - Check the domain registration information for a given domain.
    • IP Location - Allows you to determine location of a website by their IP address. Determine the domain's IP through the Whois tool above.
  • Popular Searches - This tool aggregates trending and popular search queries from various sources.

Commercial SEO Tools

Commercial SEO tools are just that, you have to pay for them. There are plenty of great free SEO tools out there, but some of the ones that cost money, will also help you make more money than their freebie friends. Most of these tools have a trial of some sort, so you can try them before you buy them.

SEOMoz Pro Tools

Some of SEOMoz's tools are free, but many of their more advanced tools take up enough resources that they need to charge for the services. In most cases, it is a fair price to pay for the data you have access to. *Note - All of these tools require a Pro Member subscription.

  • Backlink Analysis Tool - Get advanced reports on the keywords that other sites are linking to you with, including a historical view.
  • SEOMoz Labs - A collection of the latest and greatest SEO tools in development from SEOMoz.
  • Rank Tracker - Check, track, and monitor your search engine rankings on the 3 major search engines, Google, Yahoo, and Bing.
  • Crawl Test - This tool examines title tags, http response codes, cache dates and presence in the search engine indexes. It can help determine crawling issues and diagnose the problem.
  • Keyword Difficulty - This tool is used to determine the competition over a particular keyword. It gives a percentage based score based on many factors and gives a detailed analysis of top ranking sites on Google and Yahoo.
  • Juicy Link Finder - This tool is intended to help find high quality links within your given niche.
